Eugene Weekly Cover

I took the cover shot for Eugene Weekly this week! There are a couple more shots inside along with the story "Frisbees Gone Wild." I had a great time shooting the Ultimate Frisbee game last weekend on U of O's campus. The athletes were very friendly and extremely enthusiastic about their sport! I'm a volunteer photographer for The Littlest Heroes Project, a non-profit organization made up of professional photographers nationwide that provide free photo sessions to our nations Littlest Heroes. Through the power of photography we are giving back and taking a stand for these children who sometimes feel forgotten because of their illnesses. We are here to let them know that they are heroes to many, and to share their inspirational stories and photos with the world.

These photos are from my latest session with The Wallis Family. "Allie(9 months old) was born with a complex congential heart defect. Within 2 hours of being born, Allie was wisked off for her Norwood stage 1 surgery to correct the problem. When we finally got to see her in the PICU, it was heartbreaking to see her connected to all sorts of wires and monitors... but what a fighter she is! It took 22 days, but she was finally released and cleared to go home. There have been quite a few bumps in the road to wellness, including several visits to the cath lab, another heart surgery (the Glenn procedure), and an untold number of blood draws, but Allie has surprised us with her strength and unfaltering spirit through all of this." ~Venus Wallis(Allie's Mom)

It brings me a great sense of joy to do these photo sessions. The fire and pure joy in these children's spirits continue to amaze and inspire me! Allie was such a pleasure to be around! You can truly see the excitement in her heart when she is playing with her big sister, being squeezed by her Papa, and loved by her Mama. I feel grateful to have met this family and give them a helping hand. I ask you to keep them in your thoughts and prayers, since they just flew out of state to undergoe another surgery for Allie. I have faith that she will be even stronger than she was before this surgery and she will continue to bring a smile to our hearts!

Snowshoeing at Crater Lake

Garret and I went snowshoeing at Crater Lake a couple of weeks ago. He was doing an outdoor story for The Register Guard, and I got to tag along! It felt so good to get out of town, play in the snow, and breathe the fresh mountain air! Oh, how I love the outdoors!!!

McKenzie Pass, Oregon

McKenzie Pass is such a beautiful part of Oregon. I went for a little tromp through the woods with my buddy, Porter, and we had an invigorating day! Sometimes I feel like I'm on a treasure hunt when I go out to take photos.....searching for the optimum light and the small details that make life so special! I love it! It makes me feel alive and grateful to live in such an amazing part of this world! Happy New Year Everyone! Let's all make 2010 the best yet!

Sweet Creek Falls was one of the most amazing trails I have ever experienced. It was sooo refreshing and made me feel alive! Each corner you turn surprises you with another waterfall awaiting to be seen. I hope you are able to witness this natural wonder of the world some day:) It is located about 20 miles southwest of Mapleton, Oregon.

Garret got his first assignment with Eugene Magazine covering an EcoTour company that takes people on guided hikes throughout the wilderness around Sisters, Oregon. These photos were taken along the Metolious River.....a breathtaking part of this world. The deer shown here approached me and touched my hand with his wet nose!!! What an amazing experience....I loved every second of it!

I really enjoyed taking photos for JCB Dance Project at the Wildish Theatre in Springfield, Oregon. It is a fantastic group of women who are doing what they love and loving what they do. I cannot believe how long it has been since I posted on my blog! This summer has been filled with many changes and adventures. Garret, Porter, Julius and I moved out of the big city and back to good ol' Eugene. We live 200 feet from the Willamette River and the scenic bike path that winds alongside the water. I just landed my first photographer's assistant job, so all is well in my little world! Anyway, I went for a nice hike along the McKenzie River Trail and found a few images along the way.....

Well, I decided I had to go for a hike in the woods before my knee surgery on Tuesday. I packed a sammy, some h2o, my camera, my dog, and I was ready to hit the trail. I was planning on driving up to the top of Larch Mountain and hiking back down the canyon, but the road was closed because of snow. So, I drove down to the bottom along waterfall highway and pulled off at Angel's Rest Trailhead. Not too many folks, happy doggies, and a lush, green forest to tromp around in. Here are a few of the images I took, so enjoy and let me know what you think!

Garret, Porter, and I went on a wonderful snowshoeing adventure through Mt. Hood National Forest. The sun was shining, blue skies as far as the eye can see, and the pure, white snow to invigorate our senses! What an amazing world we live in!

Zoe Rose Sorrells

Sweet Zoe Rose passed away on Saturday, February 16th. She caught a case of the flu which quickly turned into pneumonia and her body just couldn't handle it. She touched hundreds of people's lives while she was here with us. She went through so much hardship in such a short period of time, yet her smile was always there to warm our hearts. I will miss her big, beautiful hazel eyes and her sweet, soft soul. There will be a memorial service for our baby girl on Wednesday, February 20th in Marietta, Georgia.

The Gresham Outlook Newspaper called me to cover Koda's Retirement Ceremony at the City Hall of Gresham. Koda was injured in the line of duty jumping off a cliff to catch a criminal. He was a such sweetie and a great model!
